The Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts (CCAHA), established in 1977 and located in Philadelphia, PA, is the largest non-profit conservation laboratory in the United States, serving cultural, educational, and research institutions; government agencies; corporations; private organizations; and collectors. CCAHA is dedicated to the preservation of the artistic and documentary works that describe our lives and histories. Our mission is to provide institutions and individuals with expert preservation planning and conservation treatment services, to educate future conservators and preservation professionals, and to inform the public about the importance of saving our cultural heritage.

CCAHA specializes in the treatment of paper-based artifacts, including works of art, rare books, photographs, manuscripts, maps, architectural drawings, prints, and historic wallpaper, as well as parchment and papyrus. Our state-of-the-art digital imaging studio provides treatment documentation, imaging services, and high quality facsimiles.

CCAHA’s conservation and preservation staff develops and presents educational programs; conducts preservation assessments and on-site consultations; provides assistance with preservation planning for exhibitions; conducts vulnerability assessments; and develops emergency preparedness plans. Additionally, CCAHA offers fellowships and internships, and its development department provides fundraising and grant writing support to non-profit institutions seeking assistance for preservation and conservation projects.
