Caring for Recorded Sound Collections (Online)

Description: The breadth and depth of recorded sound collections can pose special challenges for collectors and cultural heritage institutions. This webinar will introduce the key concepts of preserving these collections, with a focus on identification, storage, and care of audio formats, including grooved discs, open reel, and audio cassettes. The session will include an introduction of metadata standards for audio materials and condition assessment tools. Digital reformatting as a preservation strategy and working with digitization vendors will also be addressed.
