Description: Preservation has a place in libraries of all types to extend the useful life of the collections and increase accessibility. Introduction to Preservation emphasizes preventive measures and includes information on the elements of a comprehensive preservation program, the nature of library materials, and the mechanisms of deterioration. Discussions will also cover proper care and handling practices, stack maintenance, staff and user education, and library binding. It will be presented in three 2 hour sessions; on April 4, April 11, and April 18. This class is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Division of Preservation and Access.
